The CSB-SCB podcast is owned and operated by the Canadian Society for Biomechanics. Student Representatives, Jackie Zehr and Franziska Onasch, interview experts (academics, industry professionals, practitioners) about the science and practice of biomechanics. Interdisciplinary topics are discussed with a particular focus on research, technology, evidence-based practice, and knowledge translation in the field of biomechanics. New episodes are released on the first Monday of each month. For questions and inquiries, email students@csb-scb.com.
Guest Biography:
Dr. Salvatore Federico is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and the Centre for Bioengineering Research and Education at the University of Calgary. He also holds an Adjunct appointment in the Faculty of Kinesiology. Dr. Federico completed his Laurea (BSc + MSc) in mechanical engineering (2000) and his PhD in structural mechanics (2004), both at the University of Catania in Italy. He then completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Calgary (2007). A primary focus of Dr. Federico's biomechanics research program is microstructural constitutive models for soft tissues like articular cartilage and vascular tissue, as well as the study of growth and remodelling of biological tissues. In addition, Dr. Federico has many notable research endeavours in the fields of theoretical and continuum mechanics, including the evaluation of the properties of fibre-reinforced materials, the theory of elasticity in linear and non-linear regimes, and the theory of material uniformity. He is a long-standing member of the CSB and has served as an elected executive member for 10 years, with two of those as President (2016 - 2018).
