The CSB-SCB podcast is owned and operated by the Canadian Society for Biomechanics. Student Representatives, Jackie Zehr and Franziska Onasch, interview experts (academics, industry professionals, practitioners) about the science and practice of biomechanics. Interdisciplinary topics are discussed with a particular focus on research, technology, evidence-based practice, and knowledge translation in the field of biomechanics. New episodes are released on the first Monday of each month. For questions and inquiries, email students@csb-scb.com.
Guest Biography:
Dr. Walter Herzog is a Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary with cross-appointments to the Schulich School of Engineering, Cumming School of Medicine, and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. He is also the Tier I Canada Research Chair in Cellular and Molecular Biomechanics and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Dr. Herzog graduated with a Diploma in Physical Education (Biomechanics) from the Federal Technical Institute in Zurich, Switzerland (1978), and completed his PhD in Biomechanics at the University of Iowa (1985). As the Director of the Human Performance Laboratory, Dr. Herzog’s research focuses on the role of the structural protein titin on mechanisms of muscle contraction and joint biomechanics related to the onset and progression of osteoarthritis. Within these areas of research, he works experimentally and theoretically on the molecular/cellular, in vitro, in situ, and in vivo level. Dr. Herzog has served the CSB-SCB as Secretary-Treasurer (1991-1992), President (1994-1996), and Conference Chair (1994). He was also a recipient of the Career Award in 2006 and is a Fellow of the Society (2006).
